The term “skincare” refers to a routine of simple daily actions that must be adopted for hygiene, toning, hydration and facial protection.
Having an adequate skincare routine is essential to prevent and maintain the health of your skin, since it is subject to the action of time, climate, pollution, makeup, genetic and biological conditions.
In this text Piellem will share a skincare routine to help you keep your skin well cared for!
Identify your skin type
Before the first step of your skincare routine, it is essential to know the type of skin you have. This will help you choose the right products for your skin and ensure your skin care routine is effective.
There are four types of skin: normal, oily, dry and combination. Check below characteristics of each one of them and identify your skin.
a) Normal skin:
Normal skin has a balance between hydration and oiliness. It has a soft appearance, flexible and velvety texture and has few spots and pimples.
b) Oily skin:
It is characterized by dilated pores and excess oiliness or shine all over the face, it has more blackheads and pimples and its thickness can be thicker and irregular.
c) Dry skin:
Dry skin is characterized by a dull appearance, the pores are small and imperceptible. It is less elastic, has less water retention capacity and therefore requires greater care.
It is the type of skin that tends to suffer the most from the effects of aging, has greater sensitivity and is more prone to allergies and the consequences of the effects of the weather.
d) Combination skin:
Combination skin is a combination of oily skin, usually in the “T region” (forehead, nose and chin) with dry or normal skin. It is the most common among most people and occasionally causes acne.
Despite the specificities of each one, the skincare routine is the same for all skin types, the products chosen make the difference.
Now we can start!
1. Cleaning
The first part of our skincare routine is skin cleansing. Washing your face with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and built-up dirt is key to preventing product buildup and clogged pores.
This process will help prepare the skin to better absorb the benefits of the cosmetics that you will use in the following phases.
Neutral soaps, for babies or for dermatological use are the most suitable for cleaning the skin, in addition to foams or facial cleansing gels.
It is worth mentioning that, if your skin is made up, it is necessary to remove excess products with a specific wet tissue or with cotton soaked in your preferred make-up remover, to then clean it.
Another indication for this cleaning phase is exfoliation, which stimulates cell renewal and reduces oiliness. However, it should be done moderately, twice or just once a week, with special care for the most sensitive skin, as the products tend to be more abrasive.
2. Toning
The next step is skin toning. This helps balance the skin's pH and prepare it for hydration.
Tonics or micellar solutions are more watery and transparent products that help remove the rest of dirt residue (applied with a cotton pad), minimize the appearance of pores and reduce oiliness.
3. Hydration
Moisturizing is an important step in the skincare routine to lock in moisture and protect the skin's natural barrier. Choose a suitable moisturizing lotion, serum, cream or mask for your facial care.
People with young skin can opt for moisturizers that fight acne, for example, while mature people should receive specific treatment for the eye area and expression marks.
You can use more than one product at this stage of your skincare routine, however, apply from the lightest and most liquid to the densest and creamiest.
In the morning, consider the antioxidant treatments (vitamins and acids) and force yourself to move on to the next step. At night, prefer cell renewal treatments (anti-wrinkle, whitening, deep hydration).
4. Protection
Sun protection is a crucial step in your skincare routine, as it helps protect your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays, which can cause premature aging, blemishes, and especially skin cancer. skin.
Use a sunscreen with adequate SPF (greater than 15) and reapply it every 3 hours, especially if you are going to be exposed to the sun for a prolonged period and if, in step before you are using vitamins and acids, which can stain your skin without sun protection.
Don't be fooled by the cloudy days and the fact that you'll be indoors all day. The blue light coming from electronic equipment has harmful effects, causing the reduction of collagen and producing free radicals.
Like blue light, sources of heat from the kitchen, such as hot air from pans or heat from gas, are also harmful and you should protect yourself with the use of antioxidants and sunscreen.
Now that your skin is clean, toned, hydrated and protected, you may (or may not) receive the makeup products you prefer!
In markets and pharmacies near your home you can find cheap products to carry out your skincare routine.
